Dr Qing Quan (Stephen) Liang is the Founder and President of the Australian Association for Steel-Concrete Composite Structures (AASCCS). He is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and was a member of the ASCE Technical Committees on Optimal Structural Design and Composite Construction. He received the ASCE 2004 State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award from ASCE. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Steel and Composite Structures-An International Journal.
Dr Liang’s research interests are in the areas of topology optimization, computational mechanics, steel-concrete composite structures, structural fire engineering, steel structures, and concrete structures. He has contributed over 100 publications in these research areas. He is the sole author of the research book entitled "Performance-Based Optimization of Structures: Theory and Applications" (2004, Spon Press) and of the textbook entitled "Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures" (2014, CRC Press), and the co-author of the research books entitled "Nonlinear Analysis of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Columns" (2015, Scholar’s Press) and "Concrete-Filled Stainless Steel Tubular Columns" (2018, CRC Press). His books have been well received worldwide.
